SMI 420F Evaporators

SMI Customer Considerations for Wastewater Evaporation Systems

Site Data Needed:

1. Volume of water production to be treated: essentially, what is the amount you need removed and include estimated yearly volume of water treated as well as monthly amounts plus peak volume and the month for peak volume.

2. Chemical make up of waste water to be treated:

a) typical concentration (of solids and solvated chemicals), chemical type, undissolved particulate particle size maximum and actual pH level (a water analysis report is most helpful)

b) For extreme high or low pH levels (< 4 and > 12) or corrosive liquids, we will need to use specialized protective coatings for our equipment

c) What is the source of the water?

d) What is the construction material you recommend to use for the mechanical evaporators (such as galvanized steel, stainless steel, polyurethane coated steel, etc.) based on your experience with the water to be treated?

3. Weather data:

a) Historical average pan or lake evaporation by month

b) Historical monthly average wind speed and direction distribution (a wind rose is always the best)

c) Historical monthly average, high and low temperatures (especially # days under freezing)

4. Drift and overspray tolerance:

a) Provide a site layout (showing dimensions and locations of ponds or deposit area, site buildings, etc.)

b) What is the dimensional area (length and width) allowed for wet drift and for dry particulate drift?

c) What is the tolerance allowed for drift (that is, no drift at all, dry drift only, wet drift allowed infrequently, etc.)?

5. Alternatives being considered for water removal: what are the other solutions being considered vs mechanical evaporation for water removal?
