SMI is the largest provider of snowmaking systems and has a very good reputation for durable, simply designed equipment that performs well. SMI¨ Evaporative Solutions relies on our 30 year experience at designing, engineering and installing snowmaking systems, which includes:
- Engineering over 400 ski area master plans and snowmaking expansions
- Completion of over 150 snowmaking projects ranging
- from simple ski trail extensions to over 250 drawing sheets for a complicated total system installation
- from simple machine installation lasting a couple of weeks to full system, multi-million dollar turn-key projects lasting an entire year
- Full automation of system from water source through pump and piping to snowmaking equipment. Full control at each machine for water pressure and valve settings
- Custom designed snowmaking equipment for manual or full automation including valve and water hydrant control (we have sold over 11,000 snowmaking machines since 1974)
- Supply of power system such as electrical panel, conduit and outlet layout and installation

SMI¨ Evaporative Solutions has leveraged our technology and expertise in snowmaking systems into the Evaporation market. We have sold over 250 evaporator machines and are the largest supplier of this type of equipment.
SMI¨ Evaporative Solutions provides system engineering and construction services as well as pump systems, piping, electrical, remote access (operation via web or local computer, camera for remote viewing) and system automation (such as simple shut off due to high wind, or adjustments to throw distance or spray production to optimize evaporation with drift distance restrictions in the current weather conditions for operator-less systems).
Our design and engineering expertise in evaporation systems includes:
- Using climate data to estimate evaporation rates and drift distances on SMI equipment
- Recommending evaporation pond and containment area based on local climate conditions
- Designing containment area and evaporation system to maximize water removal but minimize spray drift

We customize our equipment and systems to handle customer specific conditions such as: low pH (< 4) water, high solids content (over 100,000 TDS), high particle size (supplying systems that do not clog or special filter systems), different mounting systems (float, mobile carriage and adjustable plume height and throw) for mobility or drift management, and computerized, remote control automation.
